Shaping The Future Of Logistics: FourPL Guides Ixom’s TMS Discovery

The Challenge

IXOM is a leading chemicals manufacturer and distributor in Australia and New Zealand, with a complex logistics network central to its operations. To support its evolving transport needs, IXOM engaged FourPL to lead a 3-week Discovery Phase in April 2024.

This engagement focused on assessing existing transport systems, workflows, and architecture to inform a future-state TMS strategy. The review included analysis of process flows, system dependencies, and operational challenges across both regions.

The Solution

What We Delivered

Led by Brett Findlay (Partner), Tim Harris (Project Manager), and Brian Crisp (Senior Consultant), FourPL delivered a structured, phased engagement:

  1. Review & Understand: Initiated the project with a clear plan, reviewed existing documentation, and aligned with IXOM on scope and priorities.
  2. Prepare & Develop: Created information requests, scheduled interviews, and gathered previous findings and system documentation to guide the process.
  3. Execute: Held interviews with key stakeholders to assess current workflows and strategic needs. Reviewed:
    • “As-Is” vs “To-Be” process flows
    • Legacy data and system dependencies
    • Business case drivers and risks

The Results

Key Outcomes

Through FourPL’s engagement, Grays Online gained:

  • Strategic Alignment: The project delivered clear insights into IXOM’s transport and logistics environment, forming a foundation for a future-state TMS roadmap
  • Improved Visibility: FourPL identified gaps in system interoperability and process visibility across regions.
  • Actionable Recommendations: High-level findings were compiled into a Discovery Report that outlined next steps, potential risks, and key focus areas for subsequent project phases.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaboration with stakeholders across departments ensured alignment and readiness for transformation initiatives.
